Yildiztepe Project Execution

Our Yildiztepe School Renovation Project was a very good example of cooperation between Friends of Anatolia and the state organizations in Turkey.

Following our decision to support this school, the governor of Gumusova town, and the officers from the local branch of Ministry of Education also committed themselves to support our project. As a result, we were able to achieve more than what our own financial resources would permit.

After initial contacts with our local coordinators in Turkey, Mehmet Okur and Basak Toker, the office of the local governor secured a grant from World Bank to match the amount we donated for this project and started the construction.

By the end of August, most of the repair work was completed. On September 2 our volunteers Mehmet Okur, Basak Toker, Ozhan Abat, Ceyhan Karaduman, and Gul Ayseven visited the school joined by our vice president Sema Basol. They were welcomed by the governor of Gumusova Onder Bakan, Director Saim Yilmaz of Duzce Ministry of Education, Huseyin Ustaoglu of Gumusova branch of Ministry of Education, and the village headman. During the visit, we presented plaques to them for their kind support.

As a result, the following repairs are done at Yildiztepe:

  • All the wooden doors and windows at the school were replaced by PVC ones.
  • The roof was repaired, broken tiles were replaced and gutters were installed.
  • The entire electrical wiring was replaced with a new one.
  • All the classrooms and the exterior of the building were painted.
  • Finally, the restrooms were completely renovated.

Below is the pictures of the finished repairs. For more pictures of this school, please click here.
