Dibekduzu Project Update

Updates as of July 10, 2005

Construction

The school before the construction started

The renovation of Dibekduzu Elementary School building has started on June 6, 2005. According to the agreement between Friends of Anatolia and the conractor who oversees the construction, this phase of the project was to be completed by the end of June. Due to several delays, the completion date has been pushed to mid-July, however, all the major repairs are done.

The school during the construction

Below are the latest updates from the school site as of July 10, 2005. Please click on the thumbnails to take a peek at the construction efforts and the first pictures after construction.

 

Doors:
All existing doors were replaced with new doors. PVC, wooden, and iron materials were used for kitchen and restrooms, classroom, and main enterance, respectively.

 

Windows:
All window frames were replaced with PVC, including teachers' quarters and the classroom.

 


Walls and Paint:
The whole building was painted inside out. Cracks on the walls were repaired.

 

 

 

Electricity: Existing electricity infrastructure was renewed and new cables are installed behind the walls. New lighting was built.

 

Restrooms and Kitchen:
Restrooms and the kitchen were renewed including sinks, shower, and tiles.

 

 

 

 

Floors:
Building floors were improved by laying new tiles.

 

 

Storage:
A storage was built in the backyard to store the educational supplies and heating materials.

 

 

Water:
The well was repaired and pipes were installed to carry the water from the well to the school. A 2 tons water tank will also be installed.

 

Roof:
The roof was rebuilt and broken bricks were replaced.

 


School Yard:
A concrete area was built for sports and ceremonies.

 

 

Heating:
Three stoves are being purchased to burn coal and wood. A ton of coal and another ton of wood are being provided to the school.
