Yunus Emre School Project

Yunus Emre School Project is the first project of Friends of Anatolia that will be sponsored by another organization. The needs of this school was first brought to our attention by Doga Dernegi, a nonprofit organization in Turkey, and approved by our board as a school project later on. Following our introduction, Turkish American Ladies League (TALL) has decided to sponsor this project, which will be executed by Friends of Anatolia.

The Town

Birecik, a well-known town with its endangered Bald Ibis birds, is at Southeast Turkey in Sanliurfa province. It is located on the Euphrates River and has a population of 43,000.

The School

The school building needs repairs at their water system, front and back yard, library and computer lab. The classes also need new paint.

Education

Yunus Emre Elementary School has 24 classrooms. Many of its students are coming from the villages nearby.

The Project

Friends of Anatolia will renovate Yunus Emre Elementary this summer with the funds that will be raised by TALL. We will:

• paint the walls of the classrooms
• repair the restrooms
• redesign the school yard
• improve the electricity infrastructure
• and provide educational materials.
